Kebbi Customs shooting kills motor dealer Tukur Alhaji Salihu. AMDON demands investigation and government support for the family

A motor dealer, Tukur Alhaji Salihu, was allegedly shot and killed by operatives of the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone B, Kaduna, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on Saturday, 7 February 2026, between 11 a.m. and noon.

The Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria, Kebbi State Chapter, condemned the incident as “disturbing” and linked it to wider concerns over extrajudicial killings and human rights abuses.

Salihu was reportedly a passenger along the Nagari College–Illela Yari axis when the shooting occurred.

He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries later that evening. The deceased was buried in his hometown of Argungu. He is survived by two wives, seven children, and his parents.

Shehu Yusuf Bunza, secretary of AMDON Kebbi, stated that the incident has instilled fear among motor dealers and local residents, particularly because it occurred in broad daylight.

The association has urged the Nigeria Police Force and relevant security agencies to investigate the shooting thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

AMDON further called on the Kebbi State Government to intervene and provide support to the family, while requesting that the Nigeria Customs Service implement measures to prevent a recurrence.

The association also appealed to human rights organisations to monitor the case and ensure transparency and justice.

The incident has sparked outrage across Kebbi State and reignited debates over security and accountability in law enforcement operations.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the circumstances of the shooting.
