Zamfara road crash kills seven and injures 70 on Hadejia Road. FRSC warns against over-speeding and unsafe passenger practices

Seven people were killed and 70 others injured in a road traffic crash on Sunday morning along Hadejia Road at Kwanar Dan Ja in Kano State, authorities confirmed.

The incident involved a commercial DAF trailer with registration number KTG 467 YG and occurred at approximately 8:33 a.m., according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano State Sector Command.

CRC Abdullahi Labaran, Public Relations Officer of FRSC Kano, stated that the Corps received a distress call at 8:35 a.m. and that the rescue team arrived at the scene within five minutes to begin emergency operations.

A total of 105 individuals were affected, comprising 55 males and 15 females among the injured.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC indicated that over-speeding and loss of control were the primary causes of the crash.

The situation was aggravated by the illegal practice of transporting passengers alongside goods in the vehicle.

The road was reported to be in good condition at the time of the incident, and no additional items were recovered from the scene.

Victims were evacuated to four hospitals across Kano metropolis and surrounding areas.

Twenty-four injured persons were taken to Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, another 24 to Gezawa General Hospital, 20 to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, and seven to Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Nasarawa.

The FRSC extended condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for the recovery of those injured.

The Corps issued a stern warning to commercial drivers against over-speeding, reckless driving, and the unsafe practice of mixing passengers with goods, emphasising that such behaviours continue to result in avoidable loss of life.
