Kebbi students rescue confirmed as Governor Idris says all 24 freed girls are safe, healthy and returning home with no ransom paid.

Kebbi State governor Nasir Idris has confirmed the Kebbi Students Rescue, stating that all 24 schoolgirls freed from bandits are in good condition and are being transported back to Birnin Kebbi.

Addressing journalists at the Government House on Wednesday evening, the governor expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies whose coordinated efforts ensured the safe return of the students.

He described the operation as a powerful demonstration of the government’s resolve.

“From the information we have right now, the children are on their way back and they are all fine,” Governor Idris said, offering a reassuring update to anxious parents and residents.

He emphasised that no ransom was paid at any stage of the rescue, noting that both government findings and security briefings confirmed that no money exchanged hands.

“We checked to confirm if any ransom was paid, and from everything we gathered, no money was given. As a government, we didn’t pay a single naira,” he insisted.

According to the governor, the students will be handed over to their parents on Thursday following medical checks and documentation.

He added that security around schools is being strengthened to prevent future incidents, describing the rescue as a significant victory against criminality.

The students were abducted last week from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in a coordinated operation that sparked widespread concern across the state.

Their safe return has been hailed as a relief and a testament to persistent security efforts.
