The aviation minister congratulates the re-elected governor and highlights Adeleke’s public endorsement of President Tinubu for 2027

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo on Sunday congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, describing the victory as historic while drawing attention to Adeleke’s public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.

Keyamo delivered the message in two posts on X on Sunday, August 16, 2026, joining political leaders and supporters congratulating Adeleke after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the Accord candidate winner of Saturday’s governorship election.

The minister also used the occasion to underline the importance of honouring political understandings, recalling Adeleke’s recent public support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

“Huge congratulations to Governor Ademola Adeleke on his historic victory in the governorship election in Osun State,” Keyamo wrote.

“Thank you, Governor Ademola Adeleke, for the public and unequivocal endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT for the 2027 Presidential Election. You are a man of integrity and honour. ‘Agreement is agreement.’”

Keyamo’s remarks add a notable political dimension to the congratulations surrounding Adeleke’s victory, particularly as the Osun governor secured another four years in office after changing political platforms ahead of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner at about 7:24am on Sunday at the Osun State Governorship Election Collation Centre in Osogbo.

The State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, announced that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes.

The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over his closest challenger.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

Ogunwole said 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, while 985,079 votes were valid. A total of 207 votes were rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 1,005,800.

Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.

The victory gives Adeleke another opportunity to consolidate the policies and projects of his first administration, after he initially won the governorship in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

His decision to contest the 2026 election under the Accord Party had added another layer to an already closely watched political contest.

Adeleke’s political positioning has also attracted attention beyond Osun, particularly following his public endorsement of Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

Keyamo’s emphasis on “agreement” suggests that the endorsement is being viewed within sections of the ruling political establishment as a significant political understanding that should be respected.

The minister’s comments come as the political landscape begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 general election, with alliances, endorsements and cross-party relationships increasingly becoming part of the national conversation.

For Adeleke, however, the immediate task is returning attention to governance in Osun after a competitive election.

The governor has pledged to build on his achievements, correct his shortcomings and extend an olive branch to his opponents, saying he would govern for all residents of the state.

The successful defence of his mandate has therefore produced both a political victory at state level and renewed attention to Adeleke’s position within the wider national political landscape.

For Keyamo, the congratulatory message was an opportunity to celebrate the Osun result while reminding the political class of a principle he considers important: commitments made publicly should be honoured.
