Kogi security boost gathers pace as Governor Ododo unveils state asset drones to enhance surveillance and tackle insecurity across the state

The Kogi State Government has taken a decisive step to strengthen internal security with the unveiling of two HP 20 State Asset Drones designed to combat banditry and other criminal activities across the state.

The launch, which took place on Monday at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks in Lokoja, underscores the administration’s growing reliance on technology to safeguard lives and property.

Governor Usman Ododo, while unveiling the drones, said the initiative represents a major pillar of the ongoing Kogi Security Boost, aimed at sustaining peace and denying criminal elements any operational space within the state.

He stressed that the government remains resolute in asserting control over every community.

According to a statement issued by the state government, the unveiling ceremony attracted senior military commanders, security experts and key government officials, marking what was described as a significant milestone in the governor’s technology driven security strategy.

Governor Ododo explained that the drones are equipped with advanced surveillance and monitoring systems capable of operating in difficult terrain.

He noted that they would provide real time intelligence, enable precision led operations and allow early detection of suspicious movements across forests and border communities.

He said the drones would significantly improve coordination among security agencies and ensure faster, intelligence based deployment of forces.

Reaffirming his stance, the governor warned that the government would not tolerate the presence of bandits or terrorists anywhere in the state.

Ododo highlighted Kogi’s strategic location as a gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria, noting that criminal elements migrating from other regions had previously attempted to exploit its forests.

He said those threats were carefully studied and countered with decisive action, reinforcing the broader Kogi Security Boost agenda.

Reflecting on progress so far, the governor stated that over the past two years, the state had built a robust security framework driven by technology deployment, community participation, inter agency collaboration and strong political will.

He added that Kogi now ranks among the most peaceful states in the country, with the ambition of becoming Nigeria’s safest.

The Commander of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Lokoja, Brigadier General K U Sidi, described the drones as a game changing addition that places Kogi at the forefront of security innovation.

He said the deployment would enhance operational efficiency and situational awareness.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Brigadier General O S Abai, Director of Transformation and Innovation at Army Headquarters, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to Kogi’s security.

He also referenced the recent deployment of the 21 Battalion to the state as a strategic move to strengthen troop presence and rapid response capacity.
