Bayern manager watched his side draw 1-1 with PSG at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday in the semi-final second leg, but the result was not enough to overturn a 5-4 first leg defeat in Paris, sending the Bundesliga giants out 6-5 on aggregate.

Speaking after the match, Kompany admitted that PSG’s defensive organisation and intensity played a key role in denying Bayern crucial goalscoring opportunities.

He acknowledged that while Bayern showed strong moments, particularly in the first half, they were ultimately unable to convert their chances in decisive areas.

“It’s obviously tough to take; we lost narrowly. We matched PSG, these games are decided by small details,” Kompany said.

“Our first half was good, I felt that we were the better team and often got into the areas where we are dangerous, but PSG defended the crosses very well.”

He added that PSG remained highly active throughout the match and effectively disrupted Bayern’s attacking rhythm in key moments.

“They were very active. Although we got into dangerous situations, they made sure we didn’t get the final shot off,” he explained.

Despite the disappointment, Kompany insisted that Bayern’s Champions League campaign reflected competitiveness at the highest level, even as their journey came to an end.

“The Champions League is over for us for now,” he concluded.
