Kwara Fire Service Recovery operation retrieves unidentified body from Ilorin river as officials warn residents to stay cautious near water

The Kwara State Fire Service has recovered the lifeless body of an unidentified man from a river along the Osin/Laduba axis in Ilorin West Local Government Area, following an emergency alert from environmental officials.

The Public Relations Officer of the agency, Mr Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the distress call was received at about 2:42 pm on Thursday from staff of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment, who reported the discovery.

Firefighters were immediately deployed to the location and successfully retrieved the body of a male believed to be about 43 years old. The remains were subsequently handed over to officials of the Ministry of Environment for further procedures.

As part of precautionary measures, health authorities carried out fumigation of the body and the surrounding area to safeguard public health and ensure environmental safety.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Chief Fire Superintendent Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to remain vigilant around rivers and other water bodies, especially during routine activities near such locations.

Chief Fire Superintendent Alabi Muhammed also called on members of the public to promptly notify emergency agencies whenever unusual or distressing situations occur, stressing the importance of swift response and inter-agency collaboration.

The incident highlights the continued operational readiness of the service and its coordination with environmental and health authorities during emergencies.

The latest Kwara Fire Service Recovery comes months after firefighters retrieved the body of a man believed to be mentally unstable from the Asa River along Emir’s Road in Ilorin on October 8, 2025.
