Lagos APC on PDP defections

Lagos APC mocks PDP over mass defections, calling remaining members “undertakers” as opposition faces collapse amid growing support for Tinubu’s agenda

Lagos APC on PDP defections has intensified the political debate in Nigeria, as the ruling party in the state described remaining leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “undertakers waiting for the final burial of the opposition party.”

APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, made the remark in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos while reacting to the recent wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling party.

He said the PDP should stop downplaying the “political exodus currently rocking its already fractured structure,” arguing that the defections signal the party’s final decline.

“The PDP’s claim that defections cannot break it is laughable. What is happening to the PDP today is not mere political migration; it is the inevitable consequence of years of deceit, lack of ideology, and serial betrayal among its leaders,” Oladejo stated.

According to him, “The few remaining members of the PDP are perhaps the undertakers – staying behind only to perform the final rites and dispose of what remains of a once-dominant but now lifeless political carcass.”

The Lagos APC on PDP defections statement further accused the opposition of thriving on propaganda and self-delusion, claiming that the party’s internal disunity has left it incapable of functioning as a credible alternative.

Oladejo added that the defections were a reflection of growing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s *Renewed Hope Agenda*, asserting that many politicians were embracing the APC’s message of progress and stability.

He said, “The opposition cannot claim to be unshaken when its members are fleeing in droves to a party that represents genuine leadership.

For the APC, these defections are not just political victories – they are endorsements of our party’s enduring commitment to national renewal.”

Oladejo urged the PDP to conduct a “post-mortem” of its failures and come to terms with its diminishing relevance in Nigeria’s political space.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that several PDP figures, including governors and lawmakers, have recently defected to the APC.

On Thursday, the two remaining PDP members in the Ondo State House of Assembly — Olajide Oguntodu and Oluwatoyin Daodu — joined the ruling party, citing internal crises.
