Two men convicted of producing and selling fake alcoholic beverages in Lagos State have been sentenced to a combined 40 years in prison, following a NAFDAC-led investigation

The Federal High Court in Lagos State has sentenced two men to a combined 40 years in prison for producing and distributing fake alcoholic beverages.

The convicts, Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono (58) and Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu (28), were found guilty of producing, possessing, selling, and distributing adulterated and unregistered alcoholic drinks.

According to NAFDAC, the conviction followed an enforcement operation on December 3, 2025, at Kojo Street, Ijanikin, and Vespa Market, Lagos, where authorities uncovered large quantities of counterfeit products.

Recovered items included fake versions of popular brands such as Hennessy, Jameson Irish Whiskey, William Lawson’s, and Gordon’s Gin.

“These beverages were dangerous, misleadingly packaged, and unfit for consumption,” NAFDAC stated.

The suspects were charged on eight counts, covering the manufacture, possession, and distribution of unwholesome products, in violation of Nigerian laws.

NAFDAC emphasized its ongoing commitment to public safety and urged citizens to report suspicious products.

“Adulterated alcoholic beverages pose serious health risks. We will continue to intensify enforcement actions across the country,” the agency warned.
