Lagos State Government World Patient Safety Day 2025 highlights pledge to protect mothers and children through safer healthcare systems

The event, themed “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child” and held at NECA House, Ikeja, brought together policymakers, healthcare workers, and advocates to reinforce a culture of safety across all health facilities.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, said safe beginnings for children were “not negotiable.” She stressed the need for policy reforms, accountability, and improved clinical practices.

“This celebration is not just about speeches, it is about hope, unity, and shared responsibility,” she added.

Dr Yemisi Solanke-Koya, Chair of the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), described the commemoration as a platform for renewed action. She reaffirmed HEFAMAA’s mandate to monitor facilities and protect families from unsafe care.

Permanent Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr Abiola Idowu, linked the day’s message to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda.

He urged healthcare providers and communities to embed safety in every aspect of care, declaring, “Every child we protect today is a future we secure tomorrow.”

The Lagos State Government noted that strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding access, and training professionals remain priorities.

This year’s commemoration featured symposiums, knowledge-sharing sessions, and recognition of frontline champions advancing safe care.
