Sanwo-Olu appoints auditor-general nominee Dr Olufunke Tayo-Makanjuola to lead Lagos audit office pending House of Assembly confirmation

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has nominated Dr Olufunke Omolara Tayo-Makanjuola as the Acting State Auditor-General, subject to confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The nomination was communicated through Circular No. CIR/HOS/’26/052 dated July 28, 2026, issued by the Office of the Head of Service, with the appointment taking effect from the same date.

The development marks a new phase for the state’s public sector auditing system as the administration seeks to strengthen accountability and financial management across government institutions.

Before the nomination, Dr Tayo-Makanjuola served as the Head of Directorate, Government Accounts, where she was recognised for her experience in public financial administration and governance.

A statement by the Lagos State Government described her as a professional with a strong record of integrity, dedication and expertise in managing public resources.

“Before her nomination for the appointment, Dr. Tayo-Makanjuola served as the Head of Directorate, Government Accounts, where she distinguished herself through exceptional professionalism, integrity, and dedication to public financial management,” the statement said.

Born on September 20, 1974, in Ikate-Elegushi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Tayo-Makanjuola has built an extensive academic and professional background in accounting, finance and governance.

She holds a Doctor of Business Administration in International Business from Lagos State University, Ojo, as well as a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.

Her qualifications also include a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and professional certifications in forensic accounting and criminal intelligence.

The Lagos State Government noted that she is a Fellow and member of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Directors and the Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals.

Tayo-Makanjuola has also received recognition for her contributions to society, including the Distinguished Woman of Peace and Honour Award from the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre.

The Office of the State Auditor-General expressed confidence that her leadership would further improve transparency, accountability and efficiency in public sector auditing.

“The Office also appreciates His Excellency, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, for his confidence in Dr Tayo-Makanjuola’s capacity to lead the Office and advance the State’s commitment to good governance and prudent management of public resources,” the statement added.

Her confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly will determine her substantive appointment to the position.
