Lionel Messi 900 career goals milestone as Inter Miami captain becomes only the second male player after Cristiano Ronaldo to reach the feat

Inter Miami captain and Argentina legend Lionel Messi has reached a remarkable career landmark, scoring his 900th professional goal during a 1-1 draw against Nashville SC in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday.

The Argentine World Cup winner achieved the milestone in trademark fashion, opening the scoring inside the first 10 minutes after collecting the ball, cutting inside onto his left foot and firing a precise strike across goal to give Inter Miami the lead.

The historic goal places Messi in an exclusive category, as only one other male footballer in history has reached the 900-goal mark  Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi has now achieved the feat in 1,142 matches, compared to Ronaldo’s 1,236 appearances. Brazilian legend Pelé remains third on the all-time list with 765 goals.

Across his illustrious career, Messi has scored 672 goals for Barcelona, 32 for Paris Saint-Germain, 81 for Inter Miami, and 115 for the Argentina national team, underscoring his extraordinary consistency at the highest level.

Despite Messi’s milestone goal, Inter Miami were unable to progress in the competition, as Nashville SC equalised through Cristian Espinoza, ending Miami’s Champions Cup campaign.
