Liverpool ticket touting crackdown sees 432 lifetime bans and major action against illegal sales, protecting genuine supporters at Anfield

Liverpool Football Club has launched a major Liverpool ticket touting crackdown at Anfield, Liverpool, on July 22, 2026, issuing 432 lifetime bans and 115 indefinite suspensions to individuals found guilty of ticketing violations as part of a wider campaign to protect genuine supporters from illegal ticket sales.

The Premier League club worked closely with Merseyside Police to investigate organised ticket touting networks, with authorities seizing assets worth more than £1.2 million believed to be connected to criminal proceeds generated through illicit ticket transactions.

The action represents one of Liverpool’s most significant moves against ticket fraud, as the club continues efforts to ensure match tickets reach supporters rather than being diverted into unauthorised resale channels.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Suffield of Merseyside Police praised the partnership between the force and Liverpool, describing the operation as a strong example of cooperation focused on fan protection.

“This is a fantastic example of partnership working between ourselves and Liverpool Football Club for the good of the fans and the general public,” Suffield said.

Suffield added that police and football authorities would continue targeting individuals who exploit supporters by creating unfair access barriers and inflating ticket prices through illegal resale activity.

The recovered assets were shared between Merseyside Police and the Home Office following the investigation, reinforcing the authorities’ commitment to disrupting financial networks linked to ticket fraud.

Liverpool’s latest measures build on previous anti-touting initiatives. The club confirmed it had closed 145,000 ticket accounts over a two-year period after identifying accounts suspected of involvement in fraudulent activity.

During the 2025-26 season alone, Liverpool reviewed almost 700,000 ticket registrations, blocking or cancelling 67,663 suspected fake accounts. A further 121,379 accounts remained under investigation as the club continued its monitoring process.

The club also cancelled 3,847 tickets after detecting suspicious purchasing patterns and returned those seats to general admission sales, creating more opportunities for legitimate supporters to attend matches at Anfield.

Additional matchday enforcement has been introduced at both home and away fixtures, with targeted checks designed to prevent access by people linked to suspicious ticket activity.

Liverpool reported an average of 300 interventions at each home match, alongside similar measures during Premier League and European away fixtures.

The crackdown comes amid broader concerns across English football about ticket fraud, where organised groups use automated systems, fake accounts and unauthorised resale platforms to acquire tickets intended for supporters.
