Lizzy Anjorin defamation case sees Kofoworola Akanji granted bail after pleading not guilty to spreading fake news via Facebook. Trial set for August 21

Lizzy Anjorin defamation case took a new turn on Wednesday as a 37-year-old woman, Kofoworola Akanji, was granted bail by a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos after being charged with publishing false and defamatory content against the Nollywood actress on Facebook.

Arraigned by Zone 2 Police Command, Akanji faces three counts of conspiracy, fake news publication, and defamation.

According to Prosecutor ASP Haruna Ibrahim, she and several unnamed bloggers circulated damaging content about Lizzy Anjorin between 2023 and 2025, despite knowing the statements were false.

The court heard that Akanji allegedly shared provocative images of the actress to stir public disaffection and gain social media engagement and profit.

The prosecution argued that her actions contravened Sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Akanji pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her lawyer requested bail, stating the offences are bailable under Nigerian law. Magistrate Wahab Balogun granted her bail of ₦100,000 with two sureties and imposed further conditions.

The case has been adjourned to August 21, 2025, for trial.
