Manchester United are reportedly planning a surprise summer move for Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella amid uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge.

Reports suggest United manager Michael Carrick has identified the Spain international as a key target as the club looks to strengthen its defensive options ahead of the new season.

Cucurella has been linked with a Chelsea exit following claims that he has informed the club of his desire to leave this summer.

The defender is said to be open to a new challenge after a mixed spell in London, with suggestions that his time at Stamford Bridge may be coming to an end.

According to reports from Spain, Cucurella has no intention of remaining at Chelsea and is now prioritising a potential return to Barcelona, where he began his career.

He is also attracting interest from several top European clubs, including Manchester City and Atlético Madrid, who are understood to be monitoring his situation closely.

Chelsea are reportedly willing to sanction his departure but are expected to demand a fee in the region of €40 million to €50 million.

Barcelona, however, may only pursue a move if they first offload Spain international Alejandro Balde.

Cucurella is currently focused on international duty with Spain ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is expected to decide his club future after the tournament.
