Despite his involvement, Barcelona have decided against making the move permanent, effectively ending his stay at the club for now.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on X, stating that the option is set to expire within days.

“Barcelona will NOT pay €30m buy option clause for Marcus Rashford, expiring in 5 days,” he wrote.

He added that Rashford is formally expected to return to Manchester United, although discussions over alternative arrangements may still take place.

“Rashford formally set to return to Man United but Barça remain open to new solutions, like another loan deal,” Romano added.

Barcelona’s stance leaves the 28-year-old forward’s immediate future open, with the club reportedly willing to revisit negotiations if Manchester United are open to further discussions.

The decision marks a significant turn in Rashford’s career path after a season in Spain that showed flashes of strong form but ultimately fell short of securing a permanent transfer.
