Mbappé Ballon d’Or ambition grows as the Real Madrid forward says he wants the prestigious award back at the Bernabéu

Kylian Mbappé, the Real Madrid forward, has expressed a strong desire to bring the Ballon d’Or back to the Santiago Bernabéu, saying Madridistas deserve another reason to celebrate.

Mbappé made the comments in an interview with Diario AS on Thursday, where he discussed his ambitions at Real Madrid and his prospects of winning football’s most prestigious individual award.

“I really want the Ballon d’Or to return to Real Madrid,” Mbappé said. “It needs to come back to the Bernabéu, to the Madridistas, to return for all those people and give them something to be excited about. They deserve it more than anyone.”

The Frenchman also addressed his own chances of claiming the prize, preferring to let his performances provide the strongest argument.

“In my opinion, this is a good year to win it,” Mbappé said. “My feet are my best advocates, more so than anything I might say!”

The remarks underline the forward’s ambition to establish himself at the very top of world football following his move to Real Madrid and his pursuit of major individual and team honours.

For Real Madrid, the Ballon d’Or carries particular historical significance. Several of the club’s greatest players have won the award while wearing the famous white shirt, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Luka Modrić and Fabio Cannavaro.

Mbappé is now seeking to add his name to that distinguished list, with his performances for both club and country likely to remain central to the conversation around the award.

The forward’s comments also contained a more generous note towards one of Real Madrid’s fiercest rivals.

Mbappé praised Barcelona’s teenage forward Lamine Yamal, acknowledging the youngster’s exceptional ability and predicting a successful career.

“Lamine Yamal is a very talented player, and I have a feeling he’s going to have a great career,” Mbappé said. “I wish him all the best.”

The praise comes despite the intense rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona, with Mbappé recognising the growing influence of a player who has rapidly become one of European football’s most prominent young talents.

Yamal’s emergence has also added another dimension to the competition among the game’s leading attacking players.

His performances have increasingly placed him alongside established stars such as Mbappé in discussions about the next generation of football’s elite.

For Mbappé, however, the immediate priority remains his contribution to Real Madrid’s pursuit of silverware.

His  ambition is therefore tied closely to the club’s fortunes. Individual recognition may follow strong personal performances, but success with Real Madrid would provide an important backdrop to his bid for the coveted prize.
