President Tinubu has approved N16.7bn for the immediate reconstruction of the Mokwa Bridge in Niger State after it was washed away by flooding

Mokwa Bridge reconstruction has received a major boost as President Bola Tinubu approved the immediate release of N16.7 billion for its rebuilding, months after it was washed away by flooding in May.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the approval on Saturday in Abakaliki after meeting with the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi. Idris, who is leading a federal delegation on a three-day infrastructure and citizen engagement tour in the South-East, described the move as a sign of the administration’s responsiveness.

“We want to thank Mr. President, and we want to thank the Honourable Minister of Works. We jointly discussed this and approached Mr. President, who graciously approved it.

It means a lot to the people. It’s N16.7bn to reconstruct the bridge, a 10-span bridge,” Idris stated in a release signed by his aide, Rabiu Ibrahim.

He emphasized the bridge’s role in regional connectivity and praised Umahi for promptly dispatching engineers to assess the damage immediately after the collapse.

“His response was immediate and decisive. This development is music to the ears of the government and people of Niger State,” Idris added.

In his remarks, Umahi described Tinubu as a compassionate leader committed to addressing urgent infrastructure needs across the country.

“The President approved the immediate reconstruction of the bridge as requested by the Honourable Minister. He graciously approved because of him,” Umahi said.

The Works Minister also highlighted other recent infrastructure approvals, including the 5-span bridge in Wukari (Taraba State), Lokoja Bridge, permanent repair of Afikpo road (Ebonyi–Abia–Imo), Keffi Flyover Bridge, Jebba Bridge (Kwara State), seven bridges in Edo State, and another in Kebbi State.
