Nasarawa United reclaim NPFL top spot with a 3-0 win over El-Kanemi, while Remo Stars rise into the league’s top half with a 2-0 victory over Barau

Nasarawa, Nigeria, 24 November 2025 – Nasarawa United returned to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday following a commanding 3-0 home victory over El-Kanemi at the Lafia Township Stadium, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Anas Yusuf opened the scoring for the Solid Miners from the penalty spot in the 39th minute.

He doubled the lead immediately after the restart, with Garba Mohammed adding a third in the 48th minute to secure a comprehensive win.

The triumph takes Nasarawa United to 27 points, temporarily reclaiming first place from Ikorodu City. El-Kanemi dropped to 12th following the defeat.

At the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Remo Stars moved into the league’s top half with a clinical 2-0 victory over Barau.

Ahmed Akinyele scored in the 15th minute, followed by Victor Mbaoma in the 32nd, signaling a resurgence for the defending champions.

The Sky Blue Stars now sit 10th with 19 points, buoyed by successive wins against Kano State rivals, including a midweek victory over Kano Pillars.

Elsewhere, Enugu Rangers maintained pressure near the top six with a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes courtesy of Kenechukwu Agu’s 70th-minute strike.

Wikki Tourist and Bayelsa United drew 1-1, with Nasiru Jibrin putting Bayelsa ahead before Ifeanyi Ogba equalised for Wikki in the 87th minute.

Warri Wolves shared points with Kun Khalifat in a 1-1 draw, while Abia Warriors drew 0-0 with Bendel Insurance, and Kwara United played to a goalless draw with Shooting Stars.

Rivers United did not feature this weekend due to continental commitments, leaving them with three games in hand, including postponed fixtures against Plateau United and Barau.

Looking ahead, Nasarawa United will seek to consolidate their lead when Ikorodu City attempts to reclaim the top spot against struggling Kano Pillars on Monday.

Katsina United will host nine-time champions Enyimba in Ilorin after the league moved their fixture away from Jos.

The weekend results have reshaped the league standings, highlighting a tight race at the top while underscoring the struggles of bottom-tier sides.

Nasarawa United lead with 27 points, followed by Ikorodu City on 24, Rivers United on 23, and Abia Warriors also on 23.

Remo Stars’ back-to-back victories position them as potential challengers for a top-four finish if their form continues.
