Nasir El-Rufai ICPC Probe continues as anti-graft operatives search former Kaduna governor’s residence in Abuja over alleged financial improprieties

Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission conducted a search on Thursday at the residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in Abuja as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corrupt dealings during his eight-year administration from 2015 to 2023.

Though the ICPC has not formally confirmed the raid, El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, acknowledged the development on his X handle, writing: “UPDATE: The residence of Malam Nasir @elrufai was today searched by the ICPC.”

The search follows heightened scrutiny of El-Rufai’s tenure while he has been in ICPC custody since Wednesday night. He was taken into custody by ICPC operatives after his release on administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, described the search as “unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”

The joint investigation by ICPC and EFCC centres on alleged financial improprieties during El-Rufai’s administration.

ICPC spokesperson John Odey previously confirmed that the former governor was being questioned by investigators, adding that inquiries were ongoing without providing further details.
