Senator Natasha Akpoti condemns deadly Kwara attacks and calls for urgent action to protect lives and ensure justice

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has condemned the recent mass killings in Kwara State, describing the attacks as unacceptable and deeply troubling.

The federal lawmaker made the statement in Abuja on Thursday, February 5, 2026, following the violent assaults on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, where initial reports suggested over 100 fatalities.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq later confirmed that 75 people were killed in the Kaiama attack. Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed profound sympathy to the families of the victims, labelling the incidents as senseless and tragic.

“The persistent killings of innocent Nigerians are unacceptable and deeply troubling. Protecting lives and ensuring justice must be non-negotiable,” she said.

The senator urged both federal and state authorities to move beyond rhetoric and implement decisive measures to address insecurity across the country.

Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed that prompt and transparent investigations into the Kwara attacks are essential to restore public confidence in government.

She highlighted that those responsible must be apprehended swiftly, warning that impunity only emboldens criminal elements.

The lawmaker further called on political leaders and security agencies to embrace intelligence-driven policing and enhanced community engagement.

She emphasised that a more effective, people-centred security architecture is crucial for ensuring communities can live without fear.
