The state’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, disclosed that the Kwara IED explosion occurred on Monday morning when a vehicle triggered the device along a road some distance from the community.

According to Ajakaye, the blast resulted in the immediate death of a male victim, while a woman travelling with a child sustained injuries.

“Sadly, the man died instantly, while his passenger, a woman travelling with a little child, sustained injuries,” he said, adding that the injured woman is receiving medical treatment and responding positively, while the child was unharmed.

The Kwara IED explosion has sparked renewed fear among residents already grappling with recent security challenges in the area.

Also commenting, ZulQharnain Shero Musa, Special Assistant on Media to the Kaiama Local Government Chairman, confirmed the incident and said casualty figures were still being assessed.

“There was an explosion around Woro this morning. The explosion claimed lives, though the number of casualties is not yet confirmed,” he said.

Musa added that preliminary findings suggest the device may have been planted by suspected insurgents, raising concerns about the spread of extremist activity into the area.

The latest incident comes weeks after a deadly February attack on Woro community, during which armed assailants reportedly stormed the area, killing several residents and destroying property.

That earlier assault displaced families, disrupted livelihoods and intensified calls for stronger security presence across the local government area.
