BUK student expulsion admission fraud leads to dismissal of 171 students over falsified entry qualifications in a major academic crackdown

The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has approved the expulsion of 171 students after they were found guilty of presenting falsified admission entry qualifications in Kano on 4 March 2026, in a decisive action tied to a major BUK student expulsion admission fraud case.

The decision was reached during the university’s 433rd Senate meeting, following the findings of the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities, which investigated discrepancies in admission documents submitted by the affected students.

According to an official statement published in the university’s weekly bulletin, the students were discovered to have used forged or invalid credentials during the admission process, a breach described as a serious violation of academic standards.

The university confirmed that the action was taken in line with Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes expulsion as the penalty for such misconduct.

Officials stated that the BUK student expulsion admission fraud involved students across multiple departments and academic levels, underscoring the widespread nature of the irregularities uncovered during the investigation.

The institution described the decision as part of its ongoing efforts to sanitise academic records and uphold integrity within the university system, stressing that zero tolerance for certificate fraud remains central to its policy framework.
