Airport Police Command unveils activities for National Police Day 2026, including sanitation, walkathon, sensitisation, and honouring fallen officers

The Airport Police Command has announced a series of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day celebration, with a focus on honouring fallen officers and strengthening ties with the public.

The National Police Day 2026 Nigeria celebration is themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust”, reflecting the Command’s intention to improve engagement between law enforcement officers and members of the aviation community.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammed Adeola, the celebration will feature a week-long programme of events designed to promote unity, awareness, and collaboration between the police and the public.

The activities are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise aimed at promoting hygiene and community responsibility. This will be followed by a walkathon on Tuesday, March 31, encouraging physical fitness and camaraderie among officers and residents.

On Wednesday, April 1, the Command will conduct public sensitisation campaigns targeting drivers and stakeholders within the airport environment. The initiative is intended to raise awareness about safety, security, and best practices in the aviation sector.

A key highlight of the programme will take place on Thursday, April 2, when the Command will honour families of officers who died in the line of duty. Cheques and other forms of support will be presented in recognition of their sacrifices.

The celebration will conclude with a grand finale scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, at the Eagle Square in Abuja. The event will feature a ceremonial parade, tactical displays, and demonstrations showcasing the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.

Commissioner of Police for the Airport Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, emphasized the importance of the celebration in boosting morale among officers while also reinforcing public trust.

She noted that National Police Day provides an opportunity to recognise fallen heroes while inspiring serving officers to uphold professionalism and dedication in their duties.

Ogunbode also highlighted the role of community engagement in effective policing, stressing that collaboration between the police and the public remains essential for maintaining security and order.

The Command stated that its participation in the event aligns with the broader vision of the Inspector-General of Police to deepen community partnership and enhance public confidence in the Force.

As preparations continue, the Airport Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to actively participate in the celebrations while showcasing its dedication to service, accountability, and trust-building within the society.
