NCAA summons Air Peace to address Heathrow-Abuja flight diversions, passenger complaints, and delayed refunds amid unexplained disruptions

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest airline, to an urgent meeting following a series of unexplained flight disruptions, including passenger complaints over a diverted London-Abuja route.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, disclosed on Saturday via his X account that the airline must appear at the regulator’s headquarters on Monday to address the issues, particularly relating to the Heathrow-Abuja service.

Passengers on the flight reportedly expected to land in Abuja but were diverted via Gatwick and Lagos before reaching their final destination. Some passengers expressed frustration after hours in transit without adequate communication about the rerouting.

Beyond the diversion, the NCAA received complaints regarding delayed refunds and unresolved compensation.

“We will not tolerate any abandonment of paying passengers,” Achimugu warned, noting that the Consumer Protection Department has been activated to address the complaints.

The regulator confirmed that a formal investigation into the disruptions will be launched and that appropriate action will follow.

“The NCAA, as the sole regulatory agency for civil aviation in Nigeria, remains committed to protecting the rights of all stakeholders,” Achimugu added.

Air Peace is expected to provide explanations and proposed remedial measures during the scheduled meeting as the NCAA reinforces its oversight of domestic airlines.
