The airline disclosed the expansion in a statement made available to journalists on Monday, 12 October, saying the additional services would provide passengers with more travel options and greater flexibility when planning international journeys.

The increased frequency is expected to benefit both business and leisure travellers, particularly passengers connecting through Istanbul to destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

With the additional services, Turkish Airlines aims to strengthen its Nigerian operations and improve access to its extensive global network, which the airline says covers more than 350 destinations with a fleet of over 560 aircraft.

The expansion also reinforces the importance of Lagos as a key gateway for the airline’s operations in Nigeria, providing additional capacity on one of its principal routes into the country.

The latest development follows an earlier increase in Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul to Abuja services, which rose to seven weekly flights in June 2026.

The move further strengthens air connectivity between Nigeria and Türkiye, offering passengers travelling through both Lagos and Abuja more options.

Beyond the increased flight frequency, the airline highlighted the services available to eligible premium passengers connecting through Istanbul Airport.

“For Business Class passengers connecting through Istanbul, the journey is further complemented by access to the award-winning Turkish Airlines Business Lounge at Istanbul Airport,” the airline stated.

The lounge offers eligible passengers a more comfortable transit experience, forming part of the carrier’s wider emphasis on passenger convenience and service quality.

The expansion comes as airlines continue to adjust their schedules and capacity to meet changing passenger demand and strengthen connections between major international markets.

For Nigerian travellers, the additional Lagos flights could provide greater flexibility when arranging business trips, holidays and onward journeys, particularly for those who use Istanbul as a connecting hub.

The new schedule is expected to take effect on 11 December 2026. Turkish Airlines has presented the expansion as part of its continued effort to improve connectivity between Nigeria and its wider international network.
