NDC presidential nomination fee rises to N60m as the party unveils guidelines for its 2027 primary elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has released the timetable for its 2027 primary elections, with presidential aspirants expected to pay a total of N60m for nomination and expression of interest forms.

National Chairman of the party, Moses Cleopas, disclosed the details in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the party, the sale of forms will commence from May 13 to May 18 as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The NDC presidential nomination fee consists of N20m for the expression of interest form and N40m for the nomination form.

Cleopas said aspirants would also be required to participate in a screening exercise and present all relevant credentials and supporting documents.

“The sale of nomination forms will commence immediately after the screening exercise from Thursday, May 21 to Saturday, May 23, 2026, while completed forms must be submitted on or before Monday, May 25,” the statement read.

The party further disclosed that appeals arising from the screening process would be heard on May 25 and 26, while primary elections for various elective offices are scheduled for May 27 and 28.

According to the timetable, the presidential primary election will hold on May 29, 2026, in Abuja.

Cleopas explained that aspirants seeking seats in state Houses of Assembly would undergo screening in their respective states, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants would be conducted at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

He added that all aspirants would be required to sign undertakings in line with the party’s code of conduct and electoral guidelines.

The NDC also announced plans to adopt the “open secret ballot” voting method during its primaries, describing the system as a measure aimed at ensuring credibility, fairness and internal democracy.

The party maintained that its nomination charges remain relatively lower than fees imposed by other major political parties across the country.

Under the approved structure, aspirants for state Houses of Assembly are expected to pay N2.5m for both forms, while House of Representatives aspirants will pay N6m.

Senatorial aspirants are expected to pay N8m, while governorship hopefuls will pay N30m.

The party also approved fee concessions for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities.

According to Cleopas, female aspirants will pay 50 per cent of the approved fees across all categories, while persons living with disabilities will pay 25 per cent.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and credible primaries capable of producing competent candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
