NDLEA Kano crackdown: 230 suspects arrested and large quantities of drugs seized in a month-long joint operation across the state.

Commander Abubakar Ahmad of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Strategic Command, on Friday announced the arrest of 230 suspects and the seizure of large quantities of illicit drugs and weapons following a month-long NDLEA Kano crackdown across the state.

Ahmad made the disclosure while briefing journalists in Kano, noting that the operation marked one of the command’s most significant recent breakthroughs in tackling drug abuse and related crime.

The 30-day intensive raid, conducted in collaboration with multiple security agencies, targeted notorious drug hubs including Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, Filin Idi, Rimi Market, Zango, Kano Line and Kofar Mata.

Ahmad said the joint effort was coordinated under the Kano State Joint Task Force for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation led by Yusuf Mata.

He explained that the crackdown resulted in the confiscation of cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam, codeine syrup, rubber solution and the toxic substance locally known as ‘suck and die’, along with several improvised weapons.

Ahmad added that the operation had already curbed drug misuse and reduced crimes such as phone-snatching and thuggery in affected communities.

The commander praised Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori for strengthening inter-agency collaboration, describing the unity among law enforcement bodies as a decisive factor in the operation’s success.

He also commended the Department of State Services for providing critical surveillance intelligence and acknowledged the support of Governor Abba Yusuf, whose youth rehabilitation policies he said had reinforced the anti-drug campaign.

Ahmad urged parents and community leaders to remain vigilant and support ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, stressing that lasting progress required collective commitment.

Kano remains a long-standing hotspot for drug trafficking, prompting recurring interventions by the NDLEA.

In a recent operation, the agency arrested 22 suspects across several drug zones and recovered various illicit substances, while also offering counselling and rehabilitation to some detainees in an approach that blends enforcement with preventive strategy.
