NFF urges Super Eagles to rebound from World Cup loss and shine at the 2025 AFCON, calling for focus, pride, and top performance in Morocco

The executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has urged the Super Eagles to rebound from their failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup by delivering a strong performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a communiqué issued after its board meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the NFF instructed the team to “completely forget the unfortunate ending to the FIFA World Cup Playoffs and use the same North African kingdom as arena to write a new story about themselves and their abilities.”

The Super Eagles missed out on the Intercontinental Playoffs in Mexico after losing on penalties to DR Congo in the CAF Playoffs in Morocco last month, ending their hopes of securing a spot at the 2026 World Cup.

The NFF also directed its secretariat to organise top-level friendlies for the Super Falcons during the February international window.

The women’s team missed similar preparation opportunities last month but will now use the matches to gear up for the defence of their WAFCON crown in March.

Officials emphasised that both the Super Eagles and Super Falcons must focus on restoring national pride and demonstrating their talent on the continental stage, highlighting the importance of strategy, preparation, and resilience ahead of Africa’s premier football tournaments.
