NPFL Ikorodu City investigation launched after Plateau United alleges misconduct during matchday 13, including pre-match training disruptions

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has opened a formal inquiry into Ikorodu City following a series of alleged misconduct incidents during their matchday 13 fixture against Plateau United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

The investigation comes after a detailed petition submitted by the visiting club.

In an official notice, the NPFL stated that Ikorodu City were “found to be in breach of several provisions of the Framework and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League” and directed the club to provide a full response within 48 hours.

“Failure to respond within the stipulated time shall be taken as acceptance of the charges,” the league warned, adding that appropriate sanctions would follow.

Plateau United’s complaint reportedly begins with their scheduled pre-match training session. The team was initially allocated a 5pm slot but could not start on time due to a preceding lower-division match running over schedule.

When they eventually accessed the pitch around 6.30pm, the floodlights were reportedly not operational, forcing the players to train in near darkness.

A Plateau United representative described the situation as “disheartening,” noting that the light workout, intended to last an hour, was cut short to just thirty minutes.

The absence of proper lighting hindered the team’s preparation for the match.

The visiting side also cited a confrontation while attempting to secure exclusive use of the training pitch, as per NPFL guidelines. Despite these issues, Ikorodu City went on to secure a 2-1 victory, moving to the top of the NPFL standings.

The NPFL’s directive requires Ikorodu City to address each allegation thoroughly.

The league’s findings could carry significant consequences, potentially affecting the club’s standing or inviting further disciplinary action depending on the outcome of the investigation.
