Obi Kwankwaso ADC exit sparks reaction as party admits setback but says defections to NDC are not a fatal blow

Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, has described the exit of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the party as a setback, while maintaining it is not a fatal blow to its political ambitions.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, Abdullahi expressed personal disappointment over the defections but suggested the development could allow the party to refocus its strategy.

“Personally, I’m not happy that Peter Obi and Kwankwaso left the ADC, but in a way, it’s a bit of a relief,” Abdullahi said.

The Obi Kwankwaso ADC exit follows their formal defection on Sunday to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, marking a significant shift in the country’s evolving political landscape.

Abdullahi acknowledged the political implications of the move, describing it as a challenge for the party’s growth and positioning.

“Is this a setback? The answer is yes. Is it a fatal blow? The answer is no,” he added.
