Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Ogbia pledge loyalty to PDP, praising the party’s historic role and peaceful congress in Bayelsa State

Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Ogbia Local Government Area have reaffirmed their commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite ongoing challenges facing the opposition party.

George Turnah, acting chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State, made the declaration during the party’s local government congress over the weekend.

He praised the turnout at the event, describing it as “carnival-like” and a demonstration that the PDP remains strong in the state.

“For us in Ogbia Local Government Area, this is just a congress, but you can imagine the level of support here, and it shows that the PDP is on the ground,” Turnah said.

“This party gave Ogbia everything that we would ever ask for in politics, gave us a deputy governor, governor, vice president, acting president, and eventually a president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Turnah emphasised that residents of Ogbia would not abandon the party, saying, “We will continue to stand by the PDP, and you know that we are a grateful people.”

He also commended the peaceful conduct of the congress, noting reports from across all eight local government areas that indicated orderly proceedings.

“Let me commend the organisation of this congress; it has been peaceful. Reports available to me across the state indicate that the congresses all over the eight centres have been very peaceful and orderly,” he added.

Turnah praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for monitoring the exercise and lauded the dedication of delegates travelling from all 105 wards to participate.

He also acknowledged the efforts of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri for ensuring a conducive political environment.

He concluded by urging party members across Bayelsa to remain committed to the PDP.

“My message to the people of Ogbia and indeed Bayelsa State is that we should keep faith with this party, keep hope alive, for joy is coming,” Turnah said.
