Ogun workers suspend strike after reaching temporary agreements with the state government over unpaid pension deductions amounting to N82bn.

The strike, which began over fears surrounding the contributory pension scheme, lasted seven days and drew attention to 14 years of unremitted deductions.

In a joint communique, union leaders said the strike was suspended to allow time for the state to act on the terms agreed in a signed Memorandum of Action.

Hameed-Benco Ademola of the NLC, Akeem Lasisi of the TUC, and Isa Olude of the JNC signed the statement, noting that royal fathers, national union leaders, and labour veterans helped broker the truce.

“In light of these developments, and consideration of the temporary agreements reached with the government, Labour resolved to suspend the strike,” they stated.

The unions warned that although the strike is over for now, the struggle continues. Workers across Ogun State were urged to stay vigilant and united in the face of ongoing challenges.

Labour also expressed gratitude to workers for their solidarity and perseverance during the strike.
