Okoronkwo hat-trick sends Toronto to NSL final as Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo delivered a first-half masterclass to power AFC Toronto into the inaugural Northern Super League championship match.

The Nigerian international struck in the 7th, 20th and 26th minutes, sealing a 4–1 victory over the Montreal Roses in Monday’s snow-covered semi-final at York Lions Stadium.

Her clinical display capped a 6–1 aggregate win for the regular-season champions.

Lauren Rowe added Toronto’s fourth goal late in the second half, while Tanya Boychuk’s strike in the 74th minute provided scant consolation for Montreal.

The result confirmed Toronto’s place in Saturday’s NSL final at BMO Field, where they will face the Vancouver Rise.

The 28-year-old Okoronkwo has been in electric form all season, recording eight goals and eight assists in the regular campaign.

Her relentless energy and precision finishing once again underlined why she is regarded as one of Africa’s most dangerous forwards.

Toronto coach Marko Milanović praised his star player’s influence, saying: “As for Esther, we know what she’s capable of. She’s a big-time player who always delivers in big moments — we saw it at the Africa Cup of Nations, and now again in this semi-final.”

Fans and pundits flooded social media with admiration, hailing Okoronkwo as “Africa’s next big star” and comparing her impact to her exploits for Nigeria at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she scored three goals en route to the semi-finals.

Toronto had won the first leg 2–0 in Montreal earlier this month, with goals from Small and Kaylee Hunter.

The return fixture, originally slated for Sunday, was postponed to Monday due to heavy snowfall across Toronto.
