Ola of Lagos clarifies that his demolished Lekki car lot was leased, not owned, stressing it was not government victimisation but a safety-driven decision

Ola of Lagos has spoken out to set the record straight on the demolition of his car lot in Lekki, asserting that the property in question never belonged to him.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel on Friday, the popular auto influencer and car dealer, whose real name is Olayinka Akinwande, said reports suggesting that the Lagos State Government deliberately targeted him were entirely false.

“I never said or claimed to own the property of the Skywise Group. All I did was lease a section for doing my business. I repeat again, I do not own the property, nor have I ever claimed to build on the land,” he stated.

The influencer clarified that the demolition was carried out strictly due to safety concerns and had nothing to do with personal or political motives.

“The Lagos State Government demolished this place because some safety precautions were not taken, not that Ola of Lagos was targeted or anything. Please stop mixing it,” he explained.

Ola stressed that the site was temporary and that he supported the state’s efforts to promote urban order and public safety. “It was temporary.

It’s not even safe. I honestly respect and support any government initiative that prioritises the safety of its citizens,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation for the Skywise Group, the property owners, for their cooperation and fairness in leasing part of the land to him.

“I had a good working relationship with Skywise Group and I respect the management. Please stop mixing it. They were not even greedy,” he added warmly.

Despite the setback, Ola delivered an uplifting message, assuring his supporters that his brand remains strong and that a new showroom would soon emerge.

“Don’t worry, it’s for the better. Ola of Lagos Auto Showroom—another one is coming back bigger and better,” he promised with optimism.

The demolition, which took place earlier in the week, had stirred mixed reactions on social media, with some alleging political or personal motives behind the government’s action.

However, Ola’s clarification seeks to dispel such notions, reinforcing that the enforcement was driven purely by regulatory and safety standards.
