President Tinubu approves Omokri to Mexico and Fani-Kayode to Germany among 65 ambassadorial postings across global missions

President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of Reno Omokri and Femi Fani-Kayode as Nigeria’s ambassadors to Mexico and Germany, respectively.

The announcement was confirmed on Friday, 6 March 2026, in a statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The president’s directive covers a total of 31 career and 34 non-career ambassadors appointed to various countries and the United Nations.

Onanuga said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu and from France for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The ministry has also forwarded nominations for the remaining 62 envoys to the respective countries for agrément, in line with standard diplomatic practice.

President Tinubu has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commence the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners without delay.

Among notable non-career appointments, Senator Grace Bent has been posted to Lome, Togo; Senator Ita Enang to South Africa; and Ikpeazu Victor to Spain. Meanwhile, Ambassador Omokri will serve in Mexico City, and Fani-Kayode will represent Nigeria in Germany.

The list of career ambassadors includes Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, and Ambassador Bako Adamu Umar to Morocco, among others.

The appointments were confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.

The envoy postings are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements, enhance bilateral relations, and project the country’s interests internationally.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will now facilitate the training and deployment of the newly appointed ambassadors.
