Ondo gunmen attack Igushin community leaves mother and daughter dead in Akure, raising fresh security concerns in the state

Gunmen on Thursday night invaded Igushin community in the Ala axis of Akure, the Ondo State capital, in a horrific attack that left a mother and her daughter dead after suspected kidnappers stormed the area.

Ondo gunmen attack Igushin community reportedly occurred when armed men numbering about five invaded the settlement, shooting sporadically as they attempted to abduct residents.

The deceased woman, said to be a poultry farm owner in the community, was reportedly killed alongside her daughter inside their residence during the invasion, according to local accounts.

Residents said the attack initially created confusion, as many believed the victims had been abducted before it was later discovered that they had been shot dead.

One anonymous source described how panic spread through the community as gunshots rang out, forcing residents to flee for safety while the attackers moved through the area.

Gunmen attack Igushin community adds to growing concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the state, where residents have recently staged protests over repeated assaults, kidnappings, and killings.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said investigations had commenced to track down those responsible.

He added that two victims were rescued during a swift response operation, while expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely security information.
