Ondo kidnapping arrests: Police detain two suspected kidnappers supplying logistics to bandits in Akure, recover motorcycles, and continue investigations

No fewer than two suspected kidnappers, Abubakar Sindiku and Oliver Okoh, believed to be providing logistics to bandits in Ondo State, have been arrested following intelligence-led operations by the state police command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

The suspects were apprehended at Sabo Sango Road and Ilado communities, authorities said, in connection with ongoing kidnapping investigations. During related incidents, a neighbour, Patrick Ilumaro, was shot and hospitalised while seated in front of his residence.

Residents staged a protest over the weekend to condemn the rising cases of kidnapping and worsening insecurity in the area.

Confirming the arrests on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer Jimoh Abayomi said the suspects were tracked through credible intelligence and technical analysis. Both men are reportedly providing useful information to investigators.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects belong to a kidnapping syndicate. Motorcycles and other tools used to facilitate criminal activities have been recovered,” Abayomi said, adding that efforts continue to apprehend other members of the group.

The police urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to assist security agencies.

The arrests follow a recent abduction of a couple, Jamiu Olawale and his wife, at Olaribigba Estate in Ilu Abo, as well as reports of a traditional ruler killed during an attempted abduction in the state.

Authorities stressed that investigations are ongoing to ensure all members of the syndicate are brought to justice and that security is restored in affected communities.
