Over 2,000 PDP members in Isiala Ngwa South, Abia State, led by their ward chairmen, defect to the Labour Party in support of legislator Rowland Dennis

In a significant political shakeup, more than 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State have defected to the Labour Party (LP).

The defectors, led by their ward chairmen, pledged allegiance to the LP in solidarity with Rowland Dennis, the member representing Isiala Ngwa South constituency, who recently left the PDP.

The new LP members were officially welcomed by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, and presented with party flags by the LP Chairman of Isiala Ngwa South, Smart Ogbonna.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Otti described the Labour Party as an inclusive platform committed to good governance and open to all Nigerians.

He assured the defectors they would face no discrimination and would enjoy equal status with longtime party members.

> “Our administration is focused on serving the poor and less privileged by delivering democracy dividends to the people,” Otti said.

He dismissed speculations linking Rowland Dennis’ defection to the 2027 elections, insisting that his current focus is on fulfilling his mandate and improving the lives of Abia residents.

Hon. Rowland Dennis, in his remarks, said his decision to join the Labour Party was inspired by Governor Otti’s impressive performance across the state.

> “The Governor’s dedication to good governance and his impact on the people motivated me to align with the Labour Party,” Dennis explained.
