Toyin Abraham’s directorial debut, Oversabi Aunty, grosses over ₦1 billion, becoming the first Nollywood debut to hit the landmark

Nollywood actress, filmmaker, and producer Toyin Abraham has made history with her directorial debut, Oversabi Aunty, which has officially grossed over ₦1 billion at the box office.

The achievement marks the first time a Nollywood directorial debut has reached this milestone, making it the fourth highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time.

FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, confirmed on Monday that Oversabi Aunty has earned ₦1,017,201,953 from cinema screenings across West Africa. Showings are still ongoing in select cinemas in the United Kingdom, with planned releases in the United States and Canada.

Celebrating the achievement on social media, FilmOne wrote: “Can somebody say WORLD BEST for a REASON!!… ₦1 BILLION+ at the box office.

Toyin Abraham expressed gratitude to her supporters on Instagram, writing: “Thank you GOD. Thank you Toyintitans. Thank you Nigerians. Thanks to my cast, my crew, FilmOne, everyone… Oversabi Aunty to the world and still showing in cinemas near you.”

The story follows Toun, a self-righteous church usher whose obsessive desire to “fix” the lives of those around her backfires, creating chaotic yet relatable family scenarios that have resonated deeply with audiences.

The film features an ensemble cast including Ngozi Ezeonu, Queen Nwokoye, Jemima Osunde, Mike Ezuruonye, Toyin Afolayan, Emeka Okoye, and Femi Adebayo, marking a significant commercial breakthrough for Abraham as a director.
