Oyo Farmer Killing Herdsmen Attack as a 65-year-old farmer dies after alleged assault, with police confirming three suspects arrested

A 65-year-old farmer identified as Kehinde Ojo has been killed in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following an alleged attack by suspected herdsmen on Sunday in Igbopupa, Yawota near Alawusa, according to local sources and police confirmation on Monday.

The Oyo Farmer Killing Herdsmen Attack reportedly occurred after a confrontation over grazing rights, during which the suspects allegedly demanded access for their cattle to graze on the victim’s cassava farm.

The situation is said to have escalated into violence.

Kehinde Ojo had gone to inspect his farm at about 4:00 pm on Sunday when he was allegedly attacked and matcheted by the suspects.

He was later rushed to a hospital in Ogbomoso, where he was confirmed dead around 2:00 am on Monday, marking a tragic end to what began as a routine farm visit.

Sources within the community described the incident as deeply unsettling, noting that it has heightened concerns among residents in the area over farm safety and recurring clashes linked to grazing activities.

The Oyo Farmer Killing Herdsmen Attack has therefore drawn attention to ongoing tensions between farmers and herders in parts of the state.

The matter was reported to the police at Ikoyi Ile, prompting an immediate response from security operatives.

Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement and disclosed that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing.

Olayinka Ayanlade stated that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to determine the involvement of those in custody.
