Oyo Police arrest seven suspects in connection with murder, cultism and theft across the state, following intelligence-led operations

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with murder, cultism, and other criminal activities across the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the arrests occurred at different locations following intelligence-led operations.

One suspect, Yaru Saka, was apprehended in Tede town, Atisbo Local Government Area, over the alleged murder of Amodu Saliu, with a locally fabricated single-barrel gun recovered at the scene.

Two others, Sammod Bologun and Katie Suleiman, were arrested in Jobele town, Afijio Local Government Area, over a cult-related offence. A blood-stained knife linked to an attack on Abraham Atunde, who sustained stab injuries, was recovered.

The suspects have confessed and are providing actionable intelligence to aid ongoing operations.

In Elekara, Ilora, Adeniran Ramon, a night guard, suffered the severance of his left hand from an attack with a cutlass. Operatives promptly arrested Isiaka Muhammed, who admitted responsibility and was found with the weapon.

Additionally, three suspects — Rukayat Favour Umar, 17; Mubarak Umar, 26; and Jimoh Ibrahim, 49 — were intercepted inside a Toyota Liteace bus loaded with suspected stolen electronic and household items.

The vehicle was identified as having Oyo State commercial registration.

Ayanlade said the arrests demonstrate the command’s proactive and intelligence-led approach to combating violent and organised crime in the state.

Separately, the Imo State Police Command detained 25 suspects in January under enhanced security strategies led by Commissioner of Police, AIG Aboki Danjuma, highlighting a broader trend of intensified policing across the country.
