Oyo taskforce arrests drug suspects and demolishes criminal hideouts in Orita-Challenge, strengthening security and public confidence.

The Joint Security Taskforce in Oyo State confirmed on Wednesday the arrest of two suspected drug peddlers and the demolition of criminal hideouts and illegal shanties at the Orita-Challenge area in Oluyole Local Government.

The operation followed multiple petitions from residents of neighbouring communities, prompting security operatives and the Local Government Environmental Team, under Chairman Akeem Olatunji, to intervene.

Olatunji said the raid aimed to address escalating criminal activities, including robbery, maiming, sexual assault, and drug trafficking.

Illegal structures used as hideouts were demolished after occupants failed to vacate the area despite a 30-day notice.

“As a responsive and responsible government, we had no choice but to move in immediately to restore public confidence and peace,” Olatunji said.

The suspects apprehended were found in possession of substances suspected to be narcotics.

Police authorities are handling the case, with investigations ongoing to ensure swift prosecution.

Others occupying the illegal structures have been ordered to leave and warned against engaging in criminal activities.

Olatunji explained that the operation involved multiple security agencies, including Amotekun, the Nigeria Police Force, Operation Burst, the Civil Defence Corps, and the Environmental Task Force.

The collaborative effort aims to strengthen safety and promote community trust across Oluyole Local Government.

Community leaders, including Olayinka Banjo, Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, commended Olatunji’s “unrelenting commitment” to development and public security in the area.
