Bauchi Police arrest drug suspect in major narcotics seizure, recovering Tramadol and Diazepam worth N12.2m in Ningi

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani Omolori Aliyu has announced the arrest of a suspected drug dealer, Ogbu Simon, after the recovery of large quantities of narcotics valued at about N12.2 million.

The arrest followed a coordinated police operation in Ningi town based on credible intelligence received on 26 November.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, detectives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters acted on a report from a concerned citizen who observed suspicious sacks being offloaded at a shop allegedly owned by Simon.

Wakil explained that preliminary findings indicated that the suspect had been supplying Tramadol and Diazepam, popularly known as Yellow Voice, from Onitsha in Anambra State to communities in Ningi Local Government Area and beyond.

The police spokesperson said a team led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu executed a targeted raid on the premises.

The operation resulted in the seizure of four sacks containing 17,500 sachets of suspected Tramadol tablets and 487 packs of suspected Diazepam.

Following the raid, the command deployed the Operation Restore Peace unit to intensify the search for Simon.

Under the leadership of CSP Abdulrazak Fada, operatives tracked and arrested the suspect, who later confessed to distributing narcotics to several markets within and outside Ningi.

Wakil noted that the breakthrough was a powerful demonstration of the command’s commitment to dismantling drug networks that endanger public safety.

He added that both the suspect and the recovered exhibits would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Bauchi State Command for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner Aliyu also directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department to ensure discreet and comprehensive follow-up investigations.
