Ozumba Mbadiwe Road repairs begin September 15 with night-only works to reduce traffic disruption, says Lagos State Government

According to Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repairs will take place exclusively at night, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM, to ensure commuters and businesses are not unduly inconvenienced during daytime hours.

“The decision to schedule repairs at night reflects our dedication to minimising disruption in this high-traffic corridor,” Osiyemi said in a statement on Sunday.

“We urge motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials during this period to ensure a smooth process.”

The project will cover the stretch from Bonny Camp Junction, focusing on resurfacing damaged sections, repairing potholes, and upgrading drainage to reduce flooding risks during the rainy season.

Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, which links Victoria Island to Lekki, is a lifeline for thousands of daily commuters, corporate offices, luxury residences, and commercial centres.

Years of heavy vehicular use and environmental factors have worsened the road’s condition, making urgent intervention necessary.

To keep traffic moving, dedicated management teams will be stationed along the repair zone, while alternative routes will be signposted for motorists seeking to avoid the affected stretch.

By confining repairs to off-peak hours, the government aims to balance road safety improvements with the city’s relentless traffic demands, reinforcing its commitment to better infrastructure and urban efficiency.
