Truck Transit Parks Eto App eases Apapa port congestion, reduces cargo delays, creates jobs, and boosts economic activity, says NAGAFF president

Speaking at a press briefing in Apapa, NAGAFF President Tochukwu Ezisi applauded Truck Transit Parks Limited (TTP) for its interventions, noting that the electronic call-up system has brought stability to an area long notorious for gridlock.

Introduced in February 2021 through a partnership with the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Lagos State Government, the system, known as Eto, batches trucks entering and exiting Apapa and Tin Can Island ports.

The digital innovation has drastically reduced human interference, allowing for orderly movement and improving overall port efficiency.

Ezisi described the app as a “turning point” for Apapa. “The electronic call-up system, popularly called Eto App, has sanitised the Apapa metropolis by drastically cutting down the gridlock that plagued the area for over a decade.

This development has restored sanity, boosted port efficiency, and allowed businesses and residents to breathe easier,” he said.

Prior to Eto’s deployment, trucks could remain stuck for weeks, discouraging investments and worsening living conditions for residents.

Under TTP’s system, the typical turnaround time for trucks has dropped from two to three weeks to less than three days, while export containers from the hinterlands now arrive more predictably.

Beyond traffic management, the Eto App has created jobs and economic opportunities. Ezisi noted that the technology directly created approximately 225 jobs and empowered over 500 ancillary workers in the port environment, highlighting how digital solutions can improve logistics and livelihoods simultaneously.

Property values in Apapa have risen, and commercial and recreational activities are gradually returning to the area. Ezisi emphasised the importance of sustaining the innovation.

“Relevant authorities must ensure that the standards set by service providers like TTP are maintained, monitored, and consolidated. There is still work to be done, and the old tradition of failing to build on progress must end,” he added.
