Pedro Rodríguez retirement marks the end of a decorated career with Barcelona, Chelsea, Roma, Lazio and Spain

Spanish footballer Pedro Rodríguez has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a decorated career that included major honours with Barcelona, Chelsea and the Spain national team.

The former Barcelona forward made the announcement on Wednesday through an emotional message on his X account, saying he felt the time had come to begin a new chapter in his life.

“I feel that the time has come.

“The time to take a step forward and begin a new stage in my life,” Pedro said.

Reflecting on his career, the Spaniard expressed pride in fulfilling the dream he had cherished since childhood and thanked the people who supported him throughout his journey.

“I leave proud of having lived my dream and of all the people who were by my side to make it come true,” he said.

Pedro also paid tribute to the sport that gave him memorable moments throughout his playing career.

“Thank you, soccer, for making me so happy,” he added.

Pedro began his senior career with Barcelona, where he developed into an important member of the club’s highly successful side under manager Pep Guardiola.

During his time with the Catalan giants, he won major domestic and European honours before leaving the club for Chelsea in 2015.

His career later took him to Italy, where he represented Roma and Lazio, continuing his journey in some of Europe’s most competitive leagues.

At international level, Pedro was part of Spain’s celebrated golden generation.

He represented La Roja at major international tournaments and was a member of the Spain squad that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012.

His retirement therefore closes a career spanning more than 15 years at the highest level.

Across Spain, England and Italy, Pedro collected major trophies while earning recognition as one of the accomplished forwards of his generation.
