Plateau PDP congress elects new executives in Jos as Raymond Dabo becomes chairman; Governor Mutfwang calls for unity ahead of 2027 elections

The Plateau PDP congress held on Saturday in Jos, the state capital, has produced a new set of executives to lead the party’s affairs for the next four years, with Mr Raymond Dabo emerging as chairman.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr David Umbugadu, declared 39 persons duly elected into various party positions after a transparent voting exercise witnessed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other political stakeholders.

Umbugadu said that although all the officials emerged through consensus, delegates still cast their votes to affirm the process. “The process of this election is transparent and clear.

We did this in the presence of INEC and other election stakeholders. By the powers conferred in me by our great party, the PDP, I hereby declare all of you returned elected,” he stated.

In his acceptance speech, Raymond Dabo pledged to serve with dedication and integrity, assuring party members of his commitment to strengthening internal cohesion and rebuilding grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who attended the Plateau PDP congress, congratulated the new executives and urged them to focus on uniting the party and resolving internal disputes.

“Your first job is to unite the party; ensure that the division in the party is resolved. The time of exclusion is over,” he said.

Mutfwang emphasised that the era of factional politics in the Plateau PDP must end, calling on all members to put aside personal interests for the collective progress of the party.

“Let’s allow everybody to resolve their grievances. I plead with you to pursue the general interest of the party,” he added.

Party delegates and observers described the congress as peaceful and well-organised, commending both the electoral committee and the leadership of the PDP in the state for ensuring transparency and inclusivity.

With the successful conduct of the congress, the Plateau PDP has set its sights on consolidating internal harmony and regaining political strength as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 polls.
