Street-pop singer says a bout with Terry G would revive the musician’s profile after his rematch with actor Charles Okocha

Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has challenged fellow musician Terry G to a celebrity boxing match, saying a fight between them would bring the veteran entertainer back into the public spotlight.

Portable made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds on Sunday, where he dismissed suggestions that he was interested in stepping into the ring with social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

Instead, the self-styled “Zazuu” crooner identified Terry G as the opponent he wants to face after completing his scheduled rematch with actor Charles Okocha.

“Terry G. I want to fight Terry G,” Portable said.

“If Terry G fights me one-on-one in boxing, I swear to God he will rise again. People will remember him again.”

When asked whether the proposed bout was intended to help revive Terry G’s career, Portable responded: “Yeah! I just train. I want to blow him.”

The singer said his focus remains on his rematch with Charles Okocha, which is scheduled for July 31, expressing confidence that he would emerge victorious before pursuing another high-profile celebrity contest.

“After I fight and beat Charles Okocha, I’m going to London. If I come back from London, I want to fight Terry G,” he said.

Portable also disclosed plans for an international music tour in 2026, listing the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, Malaysia, Dubai and South Africa among his intended destinations.

Reflecting on his involvement in celebrity boxing, the controversial performer argued that he had helped increase public interest in the sport by using his popularity to attract larger audiences and sponsorship.

“I don try for Nigeria. I use my own music career, I use am build boxing, Nigeria boxing. I use am rise am,” he said.

Portable also claimed that no professional boxer in Nigeria had earned more than he had from celebrity bouts.

“Which boxer fit come out say he collect money pass me for this Nigeria? You dey collect reach ₦100 million. How many belts do you have? How many rounds did you fight? How much did you collect?” he asked.

According to the singer, he has already received ₦50 million as part payment for the rematch with Okocha, with the total purse for the contest valued at ₦150 million.

“I don collect ₦50 million. We are fighting for ₦150 million,” he said.

Confident of another victory, Portable dismissed suggestions that Okocha could reverse the outcome of their first encounter.

“Don’t worry, not if I win. I’m winning this match. I’m the face of boxing in Nigeria 2026,” he declared.

The rematch was activated after Okocha exercised a contractual rematch clause following Portable’s unanimous-decision victory in their first celebrity boxing contest.

Both men have intensified preparations ahead of the bout. Okocha has been training with WBO Intercontinental heavyweight champion Moses Itauma, while Portable is working alongside WBA Africa lightweight champion Taiwo “Esehpo” Agbaje.

Portable has built a growing reputation in Nigeria’s celebrity boxing scene, having also defeated singer Speed Darlington and Kizz Daniel’s bodyguard, Kelvin Atobiloye, popularly known as Kelvin Power, in previous exhibition contests.

Whether Terry G accepts the latest challenge remains to be seen, but Portable’s comments are likely to fuel fresh conversation around celebrity boxing, a fast-growing entertainment spectacle that has increasingly blurred the lines between music, sports and social media in Nigeria.
