Purple Aki Death has sent shockwaves across Liverpool after notorious bodybuilder Akinwale Arobieke, 64, was discovered lifeless at his home in Toxteth.

Merseyside Police confirmed he was found unresponsive on Devonshire Road on Tuesday night and pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the death is not suspicious, with a file now passed to the coroner.

For decades, Arobieke known as “Purple Aki” cast a long shadow over Merseyside. His name became folklore, tied to fear, dark humour, and urban myth.

The bodybuilder gained notoriety in the 1980s for his fixation on men’s muscles, often approaching young men to touch or measure their biceps.

Courts repeatedly labelled his behaviour “strange and obsessive,” and he served multiple prison sentences for harassment and intimidation. At one stage, he was banned from gyms and from touching men’s muscles under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Despite this, Arobieke insisted his actions were misunderstood and not sexually driven. His notoriety only grew over the years, spreading through gyms, rugby clubs, and eventually online, where stories of “Purple Aki” cemented his status as both a feared and infamous figure.

His legend was tragically tied to the 1986 death of 16-year-old Gary Kelly, who died after being electrocuted on railway tracks while allegedly fleeing from Arobieke. Although convicted of manslaughter, the ruling was later overturned on appeal.
